Falcons of the Month – Optimism
This month at Foothills, we learned about the word OPTIMISM. Optimism means having a hopeful and positive outlook—even when things feel challenging.
Kindergarten students learned that habits of happiness can help them feel optimistic. First grade focused on habits of happiness like being kind, believing in yourself, and practicing gratitude. Second grade was reminded of our chant from the beginning of the year and how it can help us feel optimistic: “We do our best, and we don’t give up!” Third grade learned that we can create positive thoughts, which helps us feel optimistic. Fourth grade explored helpful and unhelpful coping skills. Fifth grade learned that words are powerful and that using them carefully matters.
Congratulations to this month’s Falcons of the Month for showing optimism in action!

This month’s PrinciPAL Lunch Club winners had a blast enjoying lunch with Mrs. Stoddard! Smiles, laughs, and great conversations all around—well done, Falcons!

Second graders transformed into zoo biologists this week! Using their five senses and sharp science skills, they became detectives, solving clues about mysterious objects from Utah’s wild habitats. Their investigations led to exciting discoveries—and a special meet-and-greet with real-life animal stars: a tiger salamander from the wetlands and a desert-dwelling chuckwalla!
A huge thank you to Hogle Zoo for making this unforgettable adventure possible!

Miss Carlile’s class had some visitors from the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium come on Friday! We talked about adaptations, played some games, and met Newman the Tiger salamander and Daisy the Hermann’s tortoise.

For the 100th day of school, my students enjoyed bringing in 100 items, creating 10 ice cream scoops with 10 sprinkles each, writing a paragraph about all the things they have learned in 100 days, and seeing if they can write 100 words. Many of them thought they didn’t know 100 words, but they were able to do it! Dressing up as “100 years old” might have been the best part!

Huge congratulations to our phenomenal principal, Mrs. Stoddard, on being named Nebo's Principal of the Year! Her leadership, dedication, and constant focus on students make our school an amazing place. We are beyond lucky to learn and grow under her leadership. So well deserved!

Students have been busy learning in the library! We’ve explored how snowflakes are formed (2nd grade won our snowflake scavenger hunt!) and we’ve also been learning about the different genres available in our collection. Students are becoming pros at identifying fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and drama.

Fourth graders learned from Mrs. Delvin about storm water and how to stop pollutants from getting into our clean drinking water. We will give a hoot and not pollute!

Our students work hard even when the lights go out!

Join us for a magical Princess Party filled with games, dancing, crafts, and service—supporting Miss Utah & Miss Utah’s Teen 2026 along the way. We can’t wait to celebrate with your little princess!

Mrs. Gammell’s class attended the Utah Symphony with all the fourth graders in our district. We had a great time and learned so much listening to the music.
